Guy Mannaerts is emeritus professor at the University of Leuven School of Medicine. Until recently he served as chairman of the University of Leuven Hospitals, their affiliated hospital network which comprises half of the Flemish hospital beds, and a number of University Hospital spin-off companies. He was also a board member of the University. Currently, Guy he serves on the board of several healthcare-related private companies.
Guy obtained MD and PhD degrees from the University of Leuven. After a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas, he was appointed professor of Pharmacology at the University of Leuven School of Medicine in 1976. His research included lipid metabolism and peroxisome biochemistry and biogenesis. He has published more than 200 papers in international peer-reviewed journals.
In 1993, Guy became dean of the School of Medicine and, from 1995 on, vice-rector for the Biomedical Sciences, board member of the University, and chairman of the University Hospitals.
