Supetai Well Project
In 2020, Amici Lovanienses facilitated a partnership between Leuven Research and Development in Belgium, Santa Clara University in California, and Sabore's Well in Kenya. Both universities aimed to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals through collaborative efforts led by students. Inspired by the challenge of providing safe drinking water to a remote Maasai community, students and advisors embarked on designing a suitable reverse osmosis system. Employing a multidisciplinary approach, they gained a comprehensive understanding of the problem and devised a solution. In 2023, two student groups traveled to Kenya to validate the proposed solution, initiate the construction of a holding tank, and immerse themselves in the local culture. The project emphasized the nexus between water accessibility and education. Continuing into 2024, another group of KU Leuven students will travel to Kenya to install the reverse osmosis system and explore further opportunities for community development projects. The project remains ongoing, with updates on the students' experiences available on both KU Leuven's Research and Development site and Sabore's Well website.
